Шапиро, Майкл Джозеф

Майкл Джозеф Шапиро (англ. Michel J. Shapiro, 16 февраля 1940, Гавайи) — американский философ, теоретик культуры и политолог. Преподает на кафедре политологии в Гавайском университете. Его работы часто называют постдисциплинарными, поскольку они включают в себя политическую философию, критическую теорию, культурологию, теорию кино, теории международных отношений, теорию литературы, социологию, сравнительную политологию, географию, экономику, психоанализ, эстетику и т. д.

Политический теоретик Уильям Коннолли в своем обзоре книги Шапиро Methods and Nations написал, что «ни один пишущий сегодня не обладает таким мастерством над разнообразием отсылок, или умением вырабатывать новые идеи из оных».

Карьера

В своих ранних работах по политологии Шапиро затрагивал традиционные области политических наук, такие как политическая психология, теория принятия решений и электоральная политика. Однако в 1980х, под влиянием Мишеля Фуко, Шапиро начинает использовать в своих работах концепции заимствованные из континентальной философии и культурологии, включая микрополитику, властоментальность и ритмоанализ, одновременно включая в свои работы нетрадиционные в научной среде техники повествования как, например, рассказ от первого лица.

Майкл Шапиро является редактором серии книг политической теории, получившим название Taking on the Political. С 2004 по 2009 он был редактором академического журнала Theory and Event.
